Big Books We read big books each week. While reading we ask questions to foster deeper thinking. This is something you can do at home. Ask questions while reading such as: Why do you think the boy did that? What do you think will happen next? How was the character feeling when that happened? etc...

Oral language cardsOral language cards are short stories on 4 large cards with photos. We discuss vocabulary first (unfamiliar words) and the teacher reads the story and continues to ask questions throughout.

Read aloudsThese are short stories with NO pictures. This allows students to picture the story in their own minds and to use imagination to visualize the details of the stories. They are often poems, fables, and short stories passed down (often from different countries).
